Nike Basketball paid tribute to one of their most innovative advertising campaigns from the early 2000s through the release of the Nike Air More Uptempo Rayguns. In 2002, Nike introduced a three-part advertising campaign that transported viewers back to the year 1975. These commercials revolved around a fictional ABA team known as the Roswell Rayguns, showcasing their remarkable journey from being a last-place team to becoming an unstoppable force in the world of basketball. The Roswell Rayguns logo and team colors were initially referenced by Nike on the Nike SB Dunk Low Rayguns in 2005. Since then, various Nike shoe models, ranging from SB Dunks to Kyries to Air Force 1s, have paid homage to this fictitious ABA team, which is widely regarded as the greatest team that never actually existed.
